Q&A

What’s something about your field that most people misunderstand or overlook?

Engineering covers a huge range of disciplines, far beyond the hard hat stereotype. In my experience it’s a really creative profession that depends heavily on working closely with people.

What’s a small, everyday habit or mindset that has made a big difference in how you approach your work?

When I start on something new, I always try to talk to the people actually doing the work currently, you get some great insights from their lived experience.

What role does creativity play in your work, and how do you nurture it?

When we have a problem to solve we share our ideas as a group and build on each other’s ideas to come up with even better ones together.

What is the thing you enjoy most about your role?

Meeting people doing amazing work in STEMM, like scientists working out how to diagnose disease earlier and faster, and helping turn that science into products that make it out into the real world.

What drew you to your field in the first place?

I loved solving problems and I wanted to invent things. I had a speaker come to school and she inspired me to look into Engineering.
