STEMM Strolls – aiming to bring STEMM students and professionals together in regional areas. Local get togethers to find new networks, find mentors, and support groups especially in regional areas where it is hard to do so.
Sharing intersecting diverse experiences from the women in STEMM community through STEMM Strolls provides an opportunity to strengthen the status of women and girls in STEMM. Bringing the community together is a step in the right direction for gender equality.
On September 17, 2024, the first-ever STEMM Stroll was held at the University of Wollongong and led by Co-Chair Sarah Chapman. Despite the crisp morning air, the event quickly warmed up with the buzz of engaging discussions among participants passionate about science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine.
“Women in STEMM face many challenges across the board, but these difficulties can be even more pronounced in regional areas, including limitation in resourcing, lack of role models, career challenges, isolation and maintaining work-life balance. STEMM Strolls aims grow networks and connect likeminded people, an integral piece in overcoming barriers and fostering collaboration.” Sarah Chapman, Co-Chair

Women in STEMM Australia acknowledge the Traditional Owners and Custodians of country throughout Australia. We pay our respects to Elders past and present. First Nations people have practised science for over 65,000 years. Our first scientists passed on the lessons of the land, sea and sky, to the future scientists of today through stories, song and dance. They call this caring for Country. If you care for Country, the Country will care for you.
